2 Minute Drill FAQ
Short answers, with links into the rest of the guide.
Is 2 Minute Drill free? Do I need an account?
The daily game is free and needs no account — no sign-up, no download. It runs in the browser. Some extra modes sit behind a one-time purchase, but nothing in this guide requires them.
Is 2 Minute Drill an official NFL game?
No. It is an independent, fan-made game, and it says so itself: it is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the NFL, its teams, its players or the NFLPA. Team and player names appear only to identify the real games the drives are taken from, and no team logos are used.
Does everyone really get the same drive?
Yes. The day's drive is worked out from the date, not picked per player, so the same calendar date gives the same drive to everybody. That is the whole point: it makes the day's scores comparable, the same way a daily word puzzle does.
I made the right call and it went wrong. Why was my grade still good?
Because the game grades the decision, not the result. Your call was compared with the best option available to you on win chance, and the snap's outcome does not change that comparison. A good call that failed is still a good call.
Then why did a call that gained yards grade badly?
Usually because of the clock. A four-yard completion on 3rd & 12 fails to convert and may stop the clock, which can be worse than an incompletion that also stops it. Yards are not the objective — win chance is.
Can I replay the drive in 2 Minute Drill?
Yes, as often as you like. But only your first completed attempt counts towards the day's score, which is what keeps the comparison fair. Use replays to experiment.
Do I have to call the defense?
Your drive is your possession. The opponent's snaps are simulated from the situation, so you can get straight back to the decisions that are actually yours.
How long does a drive take?
A couple of minutes. Real drives are only a handful of snaps, and each one is a single decision — the time goes into reading the situation, not into clicking.
Where does the data come from?
The situations, plays and player statistics come from public NFL data published by nflverse — play-by-play, participation and charting, including FTN charting via nflverse, licensed CC BY-SA 4.0. Player ratings are the game's own, derived from that production. Nothing is invented: the snap situations are real moments from real games.
Is it playable on a phone?
Yes. The board and play menu are built for a phone screen, which is where most players seem to play it.
Does 2 Minute Drill work offline?
The game is a web app and needs a connection to load its data. Once loaded, the plays themselves are resolved locally — the decisions and grading happen in your browser, not on a server.
Why do my grades look like a specific coach?
The game matches your tendencies — how often you throw, how often you go deep, how often you go for it on fourth down and go for two — against the tendencies of real coaches. It is a fun mirror: if it matches a famously aggressive coach, you probably take risks the situation does not justify.
